The Culturally Responsive Classroom

An online application designed by me to support teachers in different learning areas to develop culturally responsive practice.

Hāngi Calculator

This year I had the opportunity to develop a number of assessments. One of these assessments was "Hāngi Calculator". Designed to meet the requirements of AS91633, students were expected to prototype and build their own program to allow users to calculate the amount of food needed for a hāngi with a specific number of people, and the amount of people a specific amount of ingredients could feed.

This assessment is still a work in progress as I intend to modify the specifications before it is utilised in 2019. I also would like to provide students with an opportunity to engage in the hāngi-making process with the community.

Māori Language Week

A formative assessment for the year ten HTML/CSS unit that I developed was based around 2018 Māori Language Week. Learners were given a web-page that consisted of only HTML and they were expected to style it to meet a number of specifications. Some learners took this concept even further and developed the website beyond just the styling, and modified the content of the website to better reflect themselves and their passions of Māori culture. This was entirely their own initiative.
