My name is Jessica Petersen and I am a second-year teacher at Papatoetoe High School. My passion is supporting others to grow to their full potential through whanaungatanga and manaakitanga. I am committed to creating diverse opportunities for learners to explore and share their ideas inside and outside of a digital context.

Philosophy

2018

"Through reflective practice, I am dedicated to building a positive and diverse environment where every learner can innovate, achieve, and develop a passion for the world around them."

In my journey so far I have learned that practice is just a significant part of how we, as a rōpū, can build an environment together. Diversity has been a strength of my classes this year, and I have been challenged to become a better teacher by providing enrichment for the diverse needs of everyone in my classroom.

2017

"I am dedicated to building a safe and positive environment where every learner can innovate, achieve, and develop a passion for the world around them."

Outside the Classroom

I believe that interacting with students outside of the classroom environment is integral in building strong relationships with students. It not only gives me an opportunity to gain insight into their lives outside of class, but provides them with the chance to share their passions, strengths, and people they care about, with me.

Lampada Games - 2019

The 2019 Lampada Games was a school-wide annual athletics fun day at Papatoetoe High School. I loved the opportunity to develop relationships with the students in my form class and have some fun!

ShowQuest - 2018

The 2018 ShowQuest group was comprised of over 50 students from Papatoetoe High school, and spending time with them, and helping them to achieve their goals was an absolute highlight of my year.
